Women Rising: A Sacred Week in Maasai Land

Earlier this month, a team of three from Rise Up Woman International traveled to Kajiado County, Kenya, to co-facilitate alongside our Kenyan field partners a transformative week of Women’s Realities training with over 60 courageous Maasai women leaders. Among our facilitators were Dr. Bridget Hurry (OB/GYN) and Tori Felty (Nurse Practitioner). This gathering marked a significant milestone in our three-year leadership initiative, now approaching its final phase.

These women—pastors, mothers, entrepreneurs, and advocates—came together to confront and discuss the pressing challenges they face: gender-based violence, early and forced marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), limited access to education and healthcare, and cultural norms that often silence their voices.

Yet, amidst these discussions, a louder truth emerged:

  • God sees every woman.

  • Each woman holds immeasurable worth.

  • Healing is possible—spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

  • Knowledge empowers women to challenge and replace harmful cultural myths.

  • Change is not only needed—it is already happening.

Through honest dialogue, deep reflection, worship, storytelling, and solidarity, we witnessed something sacred: women rising up—not just for themselves, but for their families, their daughters, and their communities.

We are in awe of these leaders and remain committed to their flourishing.
