New Term, New Energy

IWE School Kicks Off Term 3 with Hope and Momentum

As the third and final term of the 2024–2025 academic year begins, the campus of the Institute for Women of Excellence (IWE) is alive with energy, purpose, and potential.

After a peaceful and productive Term 2, 270 students returned to IWE this April, full of anticipation for what lies ahead. We celebrate each of these young women—future scientists, educators, leaders, and change-makers—who are boldly pursuing their education despite challenges.

Seeds of Growth: Harvests and Hard Work

This term begins with gratitude for health, safety, academic progress, and unexpected blessings. Despite a tough agricultural season, the school harvested 140kg of beans, 150kg of cassava, and 100kg of maize. A new pig-rearing project is underway as well, helping sustain the school’s food supply and reducing operational costs. Every step forward, no matter how small, builds a more resilient and sustainable learning environment.

Beyond the Classroom: Creativity and Leadership

IWE students continue to thrive not just academically but creatively. Through vibrant student clubs, girls are learning practical and entrepreneurial skills—from weaving scarves and socks to maintaining school hygiene through service. These extracurricular experiences are shaping well-rounded leaders ready to serve their communities with skill and heart.

A Recognized Transformation

In February, IWE welcomed a visit from the Rwanda Education Board (NESA), who commended the school’s rehabilitation efforts, from improved hygiene facilities to newly covered septic systems and renovated kitchen spaces. While recommendations were made for future improvements, their recognition of IWE’s progress marks a meaningful affirmation of the school's growing impact.

Academic Excellence in Motion

The girls finished Term 2 strong, with promising results on district-level exams. Now, the focus shifts to preparing for the upcoming national exams—a new challenge, but one we face with confidence. With the dedication of our teaching staff and the growing determination of our students, the future looks bright.

There is so much to celebrate at IWE. Every new term is a reminder that education is not only a path to knowledge, but a journey of resilience, creativity, and transformation. We’re so proud of these students and teachers who continue to rise—together.
