Hope in Hard Places
Across the rugged terrain of Baringo County, Kenya, hope is taking root. Through a powerful partnership with Elyon Women Initiatives, Rise Up Woman International is helping vulnerable women rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience.
In regions marked by displacement, insecurity, and loss women are gathering to heal from trauma, grow spiritually, and learn practical skills that restore economic independence.
From Goats to Growth
Since 2023, women in Ilchamus and Arabal have been part of a Resilience and Livelihood Initiative that includes trauma healing, small business development, and goat rearing. The impact is already visible:
Goat Rearing: Through a pass-forward model, women who received Galla goats in 2023 and 2024 are now returning kids to the group to support new beneficiaries in 2026. Despite challenges like disease and low purchasing power, the women remain hopeful and united.
Small Businesses: Kiosks and small eateries are gaining momentum. While some have struggled, many women report increased stock and a renewed sense of purpose.
Trauma Healing: Women shared how they now use grounding techniques and worship to manage stress. One group meets monthly for mutual encouragement and healing.
As one leader shared, “The group is slow-growing, but self-sustaining. That is our goal.”
Rebuilding After Displacement
In Marigat Ward, where many women remain displaced by Lake Baringo’s overflow, Elyon launched trauma recovery and business training in early 2025. These women—widows, single mothers, caregivers—live in makeshift camps but are determined to rise:
Healing and Hope: Sessions addressed trauma, stress, and forgiveness, while also affirming each woman's identity in Christ.
Income Generation: Women assessed their strengths, explored entrepreneurial ideas, and began drafting business plans. Upcoming training includes animal care with a livestock officer.
Voices of Strength:
“I can’t stay alone anymore. I’ve found strength among women,” said Pamela, a single mother.
“I want to rear goats so I can support my child with disabilities,” shared Chemurara.
“We will unite as women and work together,” pledged Lilian.
These projects reflect more than development—they represent transformation. From trauma healing to goat rearing, from displaced camps to kiosks and cooperative mentoring, women across Baringo are standing tall, equipped with skills, faith, and a shared vision for a better future.
