Hope Begins with Healing

For many families in Loruk, Kenya, life has been shaped by years of conflict, drought, displacement, and uncertainty. In this remote community, where access to support is limited, emotional wounds often go unseen and untreated.

This June, that began to change. Rise Up Woman International’s partner, Elyon Women Initiatives, hosted a Trauma Awareness and Recovery training to equip community members with practical tools for healing. While the training was planned for 40 participants, 71 people attended, demonstrating the overwhelming need for hope and emotional support.

Participants learned how trauma affects every part of life—physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Through interactive discussions, visual learning, and personal storytelling, they discovered healthy ways to process pain, respond to stress, and begin the journey toward healing. Each day also began with prayer, reminding participants that healing is found not only through practical tools but through God's presence and hope.

Many shared that repeated cycles of violence and displacement have prevented them from ever fully healing. Others expressed gratitude that someone had come to their village to listen, encourage them, and provide trauma-informed care—something many had never experienced before. Because of the response, a follow-up training is already planned to continue walking alongside this community as they heal.
