Two Days at IWE

As our US team spent time in Rwanda, we had the opportunity to visit the Institute of Women for Excellence (IWE) girls’ secondary boarding school for two days. We walked the grounds celebrating the recent construction of an administrative building and hearing their hopes for upcoming renovations. We talked with Jeanne, the Headmistress, and the other faculty members about the school and students’ progress. Our highlight was being with the students, hanging out in their classrooms learning alongside them, hearing what each one of them dreams for the future, and gathering for a time of dancing, laughing, and a fashion show! The creativity, focus, and potential in these young women is extraordinary!

These students are bright and full of life and dreams! We believe that a girl’s socio-economic status or a deficit in national test scores should not prevent her from receiving a quality education that paves the way for her to reach her dreams.

While there, we met Denise, the IWE accountant and a former IWE student. Seeing how Denise uses her education and skills to empower the next generation of women was an encouragement.
