A Visit to Mathare

In January, our US Rise Up team stopped to visit the widows and single mothers we have been working alongside in Mathare, an informal settlement in Kenya. These women and business owners shared how the training and capital injection have boosted their businesses.

We spent the afternoon visiting with these women as they each shared what kind of business they own, how it is doing since the economic disruption of 2020, the skills they have gained, and the relationships they have built through being chosen to participate in this year-long initiative. When you invest deeply in the lives of women through vocational training, capital injection, and gender-based violence awareness training, it pays off!

This is HOPE that helps!

After hearing about these businesses, we had to stop in to see a few of them in action!

The opportunity to see and hear from the women, see their businesses in action and walk the streets where they live and work allowed us to grasp the real impact.

This economic empowerment initiative is bringing hope and healing directly to the lives of 50 single mothers, widows, and their surrounding community.
