“Too Near, Yet Too Far”

Kajiado County is one of forty-seven counties in Kenya. On November 14th-15th, our Kenyan Field Partner (Elyon Women Initiatives) traveled to a rural area 30 miles outside one of the towns in Kajiado County. Despite being near civilization, this community is far enough away resulting in minimal development. It is “too near, yet too far.”

Over the last 20 years, Kenya has doubled in population, and as a result, there is a need for spiritual enrichment and discipleship among communities.

The goal of this workshop was to strengthen spiritual growth among church leaders and to equip the women with knowledge and skills to disciple and nurture their community.

20 women attended this workshop, and together, they covered the topics of Understanding the Bible, Trauma Awareness and Recovery, and Women in Ministry.

As the facilitators introduced the topic of Trauma, they discovered through translation that there is no word in their local language for “trauma.”

This time together gave the women a safe space to share their stories of pain and trauma and, together, begin their journey of healing

This workshop was an introductory workshop, and our field partners hope to continue to invest in this community with the aim of empowering at least 50 women leaders.
