Strength in the Midst of Challenge
The Institute of Women for Excellence (IWE) continues to be a place where girls rise, even in the face of unexpected hardship.
This academic year opened with a beautiful milestone — 350 female students enrolled for 2025–2026, a powerful sign of growth and renewed confidence in the school’s mission to encourage girls in science and leadership. Students have been actively engaging in language clubs, traditional dance, drama, debates, and agricultural learning, building both skill and joy into school life.
On November 3, 2025, one of the main dormitories was destroyed by fire, affecting 183 girls and resulting in the loss of all their personal belongings. We thank God that no students were physically harmed. In response, the girls were temporarily moved into the dining hall while emergency supplies and donated materials helped them continue with their studies. Support from Rise Up and other ALARM-Rwanda partners ensured that affected students received basic necessities such as toiletries, clothing, and bedding.
Despite the disruption, the school remained open, and classes continued — a testament to the resilience of the girls and the commitment of the staff. Even through uncertainty, the IWE community has shown courage, unity, and determination to keep learning and moving forward together.
This season has been both stretching and inspiring — revealing a powerful story of hope, perseverance, and young women who refuse to give up.
