Pigs & Crops

Burera Farm was established to transform the community by training small farmers and community members in various agricultural practices to increase crop yield, combat malnutrition, and reduce poverty.

Since 2021, the number of pigs in the Burera community has increased from 52 to 93.

As the pigs multiply, families generate income, grow healthier crops, reduce household poverty and malnutrition, and pass the benefit on to neighbors.

Michelle, a local agronomist, and a Rise Up field partner, enriches this community by providing her expertise and training to small farmers.

In the first quarter of 2023, Michelle trained 22 small farmers in erosion control training.

These small farmers are increasing their crop yield through Michelle's training and support.

“Because of my garden and pigs, I no longer have concerns about malnutrition for my grandchildren who live with me.” – A Burera Community Member
