Leading the Way in Mediation & Community Transformation

From January 22nd – 24th, the Joint Action Forum (JADF) Rubavu hosted a dynamic and impactful Open Day, celebrating the contributions of development partners in Rubavu District. This exciting event aimed to promote transparency, foster collaboration, and showcase the transformative work of local partners. The Mayor of Rubavu recognized the importance of these initiatives, particularly emphasizing the role of mediation in resolving conflicts and strengthening community ties.

Our field partner, ALARM-Rwanda’s, participation in the Open Day was nothing short of inspiring. On day one, the Mayor visited the ALARM stand, where our dedicated staff and mediators shared the organization’s progress and vision for the future. Throughout the event, ALARM engaged with 189 community members from various sectors, educating them on how mediation can swiftly resolve disputes and rebuild relationships. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many participants eager to spread the message of mediation within their own communities.

Over the course of the three-day event, ALARM-Rwanda not only received numerous inquiries but also registered two formal mediation requests, kickstarting the process of resolving local disputes. Additionally, the event offered a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded partners, all of whom are advocating for justice and peace in the region. Rubavu District’s collaboration with JADF Rubavu Icyerekezo brought together 81 partners, and on the final day, partners were honored with certificates of appreciation, acknowledging their critical role in the district’s growth.

The event’s closing remarks underscored the immense value of these partnerships and the continued importance of mediation in community development. The Vice Mayor emphasized the need for expanded awareness of mediation across Rubavu, particularly in sectors where ALARM-Rwanda is not yet active. Over the last year, Rise Up, in partnership with ALARM-Rwanda, has trained 523 community members in mediation, laying a strong foundation for a more peaceful and harmonious country. The work has just begun, and we look forward to continuing to empower individuals and communities with the tools for lasting change.
