Equipping Women to Lead

In Kenya's Maasai communities, women are deepening their understanding of Scripture, growing in leadership, and preparing to share what they learn with the next generation.

"We have not received such teachings before." These words, echoed by several women during a recent leadership training in Mashuru, Kenya, capture the significance of an opportunity that many rural women leaders have not previously experienced.

In August 2026, 55 women leaders gathered for three days of biblical training through the Women Leadership Development and Empowerment program, a partnership between Rise Up Woman International and Elyon Women Initiatives.

Held in Kajiado East, the training brought together women serving in local churches and communities, many of whom had already participated in earlier sessions.

Together, they explored foundational Christian doctrines, including the nature of God, the person of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, spiritual gifts, and the hope found in Scripture.

But this training is about more than gaining knowledge. It's about equipping women to lead.

Through biblical teaching, group discussions, Scripture study, and prayer, participants are developing a stronger foundation for their roles within their families, churches, and communities.

One particularly meaningful session explored what it means to be created in God's image, emphasizing the value and dignity of every person.

Another focused on spiritual gifts and how believers can use their unique abilities to serve others.

The women also engaged with challenging theological questions, creating opportunities to examine their understanding of Scripture and continue growing in their faith.

The August gathering marked another milestone in a multi-year leadership development initiative that began with preparatory training in December 2025.

And the vision reaches far beyond these 55 women.

As part of the program, each participating leader is expected to train 10 additional women and personally mentor five younger women, passing along the biblical knowledge and leadership skills she receives.

The three-year curriculum is designed to progressively equip participants in biblical interpretation, spiritual growth, leadership, family relationships, economic empowerment, counseling, and community advocacy.

Future plans also include practical community initiatives focused on entrepreneurship or drought-resistant farming, reflecting the needs of families living in this semi-arid region of Kenya.

Through our partnership with Elyon Women Initiatives and local church leaders, Rise Up Woman International celebrates the opportunity to invest in women who are already serving their communities and preparing to lead with greater knowledge and confidence.

The goal isn't simply to train women. It's to equip women who will go on to equip others.

And as these leaders continue their journey, the hope is that what begins in a training room will extend into homes, churches, and communities for generations to come.
