Building Resilience

Experiencing trauma healing and learning resilience practices alongside business training is the holistic way we are able to encourage, equip, and empower 50 women who are living in challenging life circumstances.

Rise Up Woman International is partnering with African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries (ALARM) - Kenya.

This work is designed to help these women gain stability and move toward self-sustainability through trauma healing and business training.

Phase I included a readiness assessment and determined how best to support the women. The first area of focus was releasing the weight of trauma and learning how to build resilience. In addition, these women either had struggling businesses or no source for income.

First off, a trauma awareness, healing, and recovery workshop created space for healing and learning resilience practices.

Next, we began to focus on business training and learning skills for income generation. Depending on their readiness, either an investment of capital or additional training and apprenticeships were started. Thirteen of the women received funds to either start up a new business or reinvest in a struggling business. Seven women began an apprenticeship in either tailoring, beauty services, or hairdressing.

“Since I lost my husband, I have been stressed because of what I went through. My husband’s relatives gave me trouble, but I have forgiven them. This organization has helped me to forgive. I was so stressed and now I can help someone who may be going through what I went through or has too many thoughts. I would not want to see a woman go through what I went through. I thank you because I have been helped.”  - Faith
