A Journey of Hope
Arabal (Kenya) has long been affected by banditry attacks from the neighboring counties, which have led to loss of lives, disruption of schools, and the destruction of vital social amenities. Many residents, particularly from Arabal, have sought refuge in nearby areas. Our field partner, Elyon Women Initiatives, has been actively engaging with these displaced communities, focusing on trauma healing and livelihood support.
In 2024, Elyon worked with a group of 20 women, offering trauma recovery sessions and identifying viable income-generating activities. Many of these women, primarily widows, depend on casual labor in farming but face challenges during off seasons.
Elyon introduced alternative income options, such as rearing goats, improved chicken farming, and running grocery kiosks. By the beginning of 2025, Elyon provided the women with goats, chickens, and essential items to kickstart their new businesses. These items will help the women gain financial stability and improve their families' well-being.
In February 2025, Elyon visited the women's homes, witnessing their progress and commitment to building better lives. One of the women, Magdaline Sote, has already embraced the value of saving and created a savings "bank" to ensure future financial security. Elyon plans to continue providing trauma recovery sessions and livestock training in the months ahead while praying for lasting peace in Arabal.
