Trauma Healing Workshop in a Maasai Community

In November, Rise Up, in partnership with our Kenyan field partners (ALARM-Kenya and Elyon), facilitated a Trauma Healing and Recovery 4-day workshop for 73 Maasai women leaders. Oftentimes, women in the Maasai community face challenging circumstances, leaving them vulnerable and disadvantaged. Many of these women traveled miles by foot and crossed swollen streams to get to the workshop. They were so eager to learn!

Rachel Mutai, our Kenyan field partner, and Corinne Gunter, Rise Up’s Founder facilitated this workshop and walked the women through the trauma healing journey, how to care for others, and reminded them of the hope and resiliency that we share.

These women leaned into the teachings and it was evident by the end of the week that burdens were lifted and hope was renewed.

The local pastors invited and welcomed us into their community and honored us with a tree-planting ceremony. Rise Up, ALARM-Kenya, Elyon Initiatives, and the local pastors each planted a tree as a dedication to our partnership.

We are so grateful to this community for welcoming us and committing to empowering women.

Check out a video recap from our week together!
