The Burera Farm Initiative Impact

The Burera Farm Initiative has a multiplying impact on the Burera community. Since 2021, this initiative has trained over 450 farmers in agricultural skills. In 2023 alone, 127 small farmers have been trained in compost making, crop alignment, land conservation, and organic manure application.

Additionally, 40 pigs have been distributed into the community, giving 40 widowed farmers a source of income generation.

The distributed pigs are valuable to these households because they can be sold for income generation, eaten for food, or used for compost making through their manure.

From the original 40 pigs, 73 piglets have been born. 6 of these piglets have been passed forward to neighbors, and 6 have been returned back to ALARM-Rwanda, who will then use them to place more pigs into the community.

Through the leadership of Michelle, our field partner, and Agronomist, this community is being transformed one pig at a time!
