Teachers continue to serve faithfully, food supplies are secured, and families and school leadership are working together to support student success. This term, IWE School launched the I Lead Program, equipping students to discover their purpose, develop strong character, and make informed choices for their future. Students are also participating in the Ministry of Education’s Freshery Campaign, promoting hygiene, environmental care, and student-led initiatives that enhance the school environment. Spiritual life remains central at IWE. In partnership with EDIFY Rwanda, students gathered for prayer in January, and a Student Discipleship Club was established to encourage peer learning and leadership development. As enrollment grows, the school continues to seek provision for additional classroom space to ensure a healthy learning environment for all students. When Beatrice joined the training, she had no place to work. During one of the workshops, the group discussed the market and how to identify opportunities within a location. After the first training, Beatrice rented a small house to run a beauty salon. As her business increased, she applied what she learned about budgeting and savings. In three months, Beatrice was able to save 180,000 RWF and used her savings to rent a better house, hire a business helper, and purchase materials for her salon. Mediation is preferred over litigation because it resolves the conflict and provides the foundation for restorative justice. Mediation puts the power in the hands of the parties to work towards mutually agreed upon reparations, forgiveness, and reconciliation. With mediation, reconciliation and peace are more likely. Mediation also saves valuable time and brings about resolution much faster. Rise Up joined ALARM-Rwanda in an Economic Empowerment & Community Transformation Project in the Burera District of Rwanda in 2020. This area was extremely hard hit by the 1994 genocide and to this day remains impacted by single-parent households, led primarily by women or young family members. Poor rural households who farm small plots are most at risk. Because land is limited and finding sustainable employment is not easy, community members must find ways to increase the yield of their crops and create an income source in order to meet their basic needs (i.e. food, housing, education, and health care). The land is fertile but limited, so improved agricultural practices and animal ownership are critical to their livelihood.
